FBI warning

Was trying to help a coworker finding free storage space online and came across this screenshot on the site of megaupload ... wow... seeing something like this for the first time in my life..

The funny thing is that... had I not tried to help my coworker locating something, I wouldn't have the chance to experience this "yet another first time." lol

SPSS 19 Side-by-side configuration error

After I installed SPSS 19, I forgot to check and see whether it was working.  When launching it this morning, I got the following error message- though in traditional Chinese.

In English, this error message is something like the following: "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe for more detail."

Apparently, this is a pretty common problem.  So said the experts, the reason why it happened could be that the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables did not execute and install properly during installation of the SPSS. One way to work around this issue is by post-install the package.

Since I had installed the 64bit version, I did a search using the win 9 search function for "C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS\Statistics\19\VC8\Vcredist_x64.exe."

Run Vcredist_x64.exe as an administrator by right-clicking on the item

Voila!  So the problem got resolved for me, at least.  Good luck to you, too!  If it still doesn't work for you, please check the link I provide belong for additional troubleshooting tips.

SPSS 19 Network install for the first time.

Tried out the installing SPSS using Network license for the first time yesterday since I have only done site license in my life.  Thought I'd take some screenshot of it.

The only difference between the two methods is that, with network license, you put the IP or the manager name in the text box.

YouTube Video Editor: Stablize or not II

Just realized that although I only apply the stabilize option on one of the video I generated through YouTube Video Editor, both got "stablized."

So I thought to myself...

Does it mean that da stablize option actually  was applied to the original clips?

And, I checked the original and doesn't seem like.... sort of...

One thing I don't understand still is why both clips I generated via YouTube Video Editor got stablized though I only applied the effect to one? 8-O

Google error on Firefox

It has been happening these past few days and ever so often.

After I did a google search using Firefox 9.0.1 and when I am ready to move on to the, say, second page, the page would load first and refresh immediately.  Then, I would see this error message.

When running the search using Chrome, no problems at all... Thus, I think it might be a Firefox issue.

An ode to my Canon PowerShot A570 IS

Everybody laughs at me because I am still using this Canon PowerShot A570 IS camera.  True, it is really old... must be over 100 years old in digital camera age (it came out some time before March 2007).

Personally, I kept on using it because, despite its peculiar personality, it still works after all these years.

Then, there came this New Year's Day.  I took a darn embarrassingly good fall on the street.  As my body fell down, my right side hit the ground first, and, in my right hand was the Canon PowerShot A570 IS camera.

Essentially, I banged the camera on the concrete floor as I fell-- so loud-- and, to be honest, the first thing that came to my head after I fell down was--- "Damn, there goes my grandpa camera."

Interestingly, that camera seemed to be built far more sturdy than my body.  It seems like, although my body suffered quite a bit after the fall, the camera still does its ordinary strange kind of things despite of the big bang. 

As a result, if you ask me whether I would recommend Canon PowerShot A570 IS-- Yes, I would!  Except for, I am not even sure why anyone might still be considering a model that's about 5 years old and with some peculiar inclination such as them battery related problems.  It would definitely have been a good buy 5 years ago. 8-O lol

Regardless, I am finding myself to like this grandpa camera more and more-- not only because it is really weird but also because it could handle good beatings while remaining functional.  lol

Where is Amazon Associate on Blogger?

I remember that I used to have the Amazon Associate option under the monetize tab.  Unfortunately, simply couldn't find yet yesterday.   When finally found a way to add Amazon Associate to blogs, I found this error message staring at me.

Then I realized that... oops... it seems like the partnership between blogger and Amazon Associate no longer exist.  Yet, you still can insert Amazon Associate ads to your blogger blog by inserting the html codes manually.

Just got it done last night:

1. Log in to your Amazon Associate account at https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/

2. Click on the Links and Banner tab and type in your keyword.  Click go to search for the item

3.  Once you locate the item of interest in the returned search result, click on the "get link" button to get the HTML code.

4.  The codes in the text box are the HTML codes corresponding to the item (in this case, Nu Skin Moisture Restore Day Protective Lotion SPF 15).  You can also play around and get the codes customized in this page.

Copy the codes and past it into your blog through the Edit HTML interface.
