skype screen sharing problem on windows 7 x64

I thought there is nothing new under the sun and you can always google up a solution except for...

I have been unable to find a solution for this screen sharing problem with the skype 5.1.0.112.

The symptoms... you click to share screen sharing, the options come up asking you whether you want to share a specific window or the whole screen, after you make a selection... regardless what the selection might be...

Nothing happened... other than showing you a blurb stating the people on the other side should be able to see the screen now...

I tried to contact the tech support of skype but still haven't heard back from them...

Hope this could get resolved soon... otherwise, I will simply have to downgrade skype back to version 4...

Any suggestion?

  2. Skype screen sharing problems:
Many people (myself included) have experienced problems trying to use the screen sharing feature on Skype v5.1.
This trouble applies to both the "full screen" and "selected window" applications.
Symptoms: Ghost Blue Screen appears on the hosts display. and the viewer/recipient is unable to view the hosts screen,
    Here is a Question?
Anyone that is experiencing this/similar problems, Do you use any other imaging software
    features (ie):
    WebCamMax
    CyberLink YouCam
    ManyCams
    ect...
If you answered "YES" to the above, here is my reccommendation/suggestion inorder to resolve the issue. It worked for me and others.
Before logging into Skype. ensure that ALL cam filters/imaging software extras (WebCamMax, CyberLink, ect.) are not running.
    Log into Skype.
Click on "Tools" on the top of the Skype sidebar.
Next click on "Options" at the bottom of the popup window.
Scroll down 5 selections in the options window
    and select/click on "Video Settings"
This will bring up "set up your webcam" window.
    Select Webcam at top.
Ensure that you select only your computers OEM installed Cam "or" an external cam (ie a new HD usb2 Cam)
Do not select any of your cam software options like WebCamMax, CyberLink, ManyCams, ect.
Click on "Save" in the lower right hand corner of your "Select Webcams" window.
Establish your video call with your desired contact.
And then choose your desired "Screen Sharing"
selection. Either "Full Screen" or "Selected Window".
The infamous Ghost Blue Screen will nolonger be present on the host machine, and your contact will "SEE" what you wish to share.

I hope that this helps at least a few people optimize both their systems operation and their Skype video communications experience.

  3. Dear Anonymous, thanks for your detailed instruction. My problem was resolved though I didn't know what exactly I might have done... after going through your instruction, I think it might have something to do with my uninstalling "ManyCam" and switch to the internal program... Thanks again and hope it will help people with similar problem.

  6. Do you see the screen sharing icon? If you click on it, you should be able to see the option of sharing a selected area or the entire screen. Or, does your program have similar problems as reported in the post? Which version of skype are you using and which platform?

    1. Dear Anonymous, would absolutely love to help you except I am still on Windows 7. After doing a bit research, I realized that the screen sharing feature of the windows 8 Skype app. Wonder whether the installation of a standalone version might help? Again, since I do not have Windows 8, my input on this issue is limited!
